It’s information that hopefully no-one has to use, but emergency procedures in Dubai might be different from those in your home country.
Here’s a list of useful information and things to bear in mind if ever needed.
Emergency numbers:
Police: 999
Ambulance: 998
Fire Department: 997
Coastguard: 996
Electricity failure: 991
Water failure: 992
Download the DCAS SOS app: This app allows you to request an ambulance directly and its SOS feature determines the exact location of the patient. The app is available on Google Play and Apple’s App Store.
Road traffic accidents: By law, you must report any traffic incident in the UAE. If you find yourself in a road traffic accident, call the police on 999 before you leave the scene of the incident.
Local hospitals: Familiarise yourself with the hospitals closest to you and whether they have a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) as not all do. Find the directory here. If you’re driving to the hospital, keep the time of day in mind as traffic conditions can add significant time to a journey
Have information in easy-reach:
Makani number (printed outside your door) to help an ambulance find you as quickly as possible
EID or passport details of everyone in the household
An emergency care contact if you have more than one child
In hospital:
Know you can request a transfer if necessary,
Document every medication administered to your child as verbal and written instructions can sometimes differ
Don’t hesitate to express your concerns if you feel there is something wrong.
